Money Week : A Celebration of Financial Confidence and Lifelong Skills
Money Week 2026 has been a tremendous success at the Abbey, giving our pupils a powerful and engaging introduction to the world of money, financial responsibility, and informed decision‑making. Throughout the week, children took part in a wide range of exciting lessons and hands‑on activities designed to build their skills, confidence, and knowledge in managing money.
Highlights of the Week
Pupils explored essential financial concepts including budgeting, saving, understanding credit, and the importance of making informed financial decisions. Teachers across the school created immersive lessons that encouraged problem‑solving, teamwork, and real‑life application.
One of the standout features of the week was the visit from Sandra at HSBC, who delivered interactive workshops to every class. Her sessions were perfectly pitched to help pupils understand how money works in everyday life.
HSBC Smart Money Award 2026
We are incredibly proud to announce that Abbey Catholic Primary School has been awarded the HSBC Smart Money Award 2026. This prestigious recognition celebrates schools that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to financial education and literacy. Receiving this award reflects the dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm of our pupils, and our ongoing mission to prepare children for a financially confident future.
The Year 6 ‘Small Change Fair’
Money Week concluded with a wonderful whole school event: the Year 6 Small Change Fair. Our Year 6 pupils took the lead in planning, budgeting, and running a variety of stalls and activities. Younger pupils had great fun using their small change to take part in games, challenges, and creative activities—all designed and managed by Year 6.
The fair not only showcased the pupils’ entrepreneurial spirit but also demonstrated how financial learning can be joyful, collaborative, and meaningful.
