On Friday 22nd September every child in school made an orange paper plane to ‘Fill The Skies With Hope’ and support the Together With Refugees Campaign of welcome and solidarity.
We are proud to be a School of Sanctuary as this is an outward sign of our commitment to show solidarity with those in need.
Taking part in the ‘Fill the Skies With Hope’ event provided us with another opportunity to send a clear message to our Government that our school community supports the needs of people seeking sanctuary. This was a wonderful opportunity to teach children about the British values of tolerance, freedom and respect. Coming together like this shows the children that every voice is important and we all have the power to make a change.
“I am part of our Caritas Team. Caritas means ‘Love in Action’ – sometimes our action is helping people and sometimes it is helping by sharing a message and speaking up for people who don’t have a voice.” – Gabriela, Year 5
“We all really enjoyed making our planes and flying them together and we know that it is important to keep telling everyone that the UK is a place of welcome. The younger could all join in too.” – Ayo, Year 5
“We made orange paper planes to tell people we are kind.” – Elle, Year 2
