Last week was one of the saddest days for our country. A day when we mourned the passing of a remarkable sovereign. The passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

We will always treasure Queen Elizabeth II’s life of service and devotion to our nation and the Commonwealth; our longest serving and greatest monarch. Her devotion to public service has been an inspiration, and her wisdom and strength have often provided solace to her people in times of darkness, most recently during the pandemic.

As a school, we came together to honour the first day of this ten-day period of mourning by gathering for prayer, reflection, two minutes of silence and the National Anthem. With the King’s family, we grieve the loss of his mother and come together.

We have also learnt and discussed the passing of the Crown, as it has done for more than a thousand years, to our new monarch, our new head of state, His Majesty King Charles III.

We offer him our loyalty and devotion, just as his mother devoted so much to us for so long.

God Save the King.
