Event - Overseas Visitor

28 to 31 March 2019

Following on from our Headteacher's visit to the Philippines, we were pleased to host Jeppe who was visiting the UK representing the charity 'Migrante International'.

The charity exists to advocate for Filipino migrants, address the issues that lead to Filipino people seeking work overseas and to care for those left behind. They also work alongside the Save Our Schools Network to ensure that children in rural communities are not deprived of their education.

After spending the morning speaking to school leaders, children and staff Jeppe was taken on a visit around Birmingham by three of our Chaplaincy Team. Chaplaincy Team really enjoyed showing our city off, starting with our own St Chad's Cathedral followed by St Philip's Cathedral. Jeppe particularly liked our rich and varied architecture.

The afternoon was also a great opportunity for our children to find out more about Jeppe, the Philippines and his charitable work.

The remainder of Jeppe's visit was spent visiting other local schools, attending Mass and seeing a bit more of our city.

We have all gained a lot from Jeppe's visit and are now focusing on what we can do, thinking of the words from the Bible:

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy. - Proverbs 31:8-9
