Annual Award Winners

At the end of the school year we are delighted to present some special awards to pupils who have excelled in one capacity or another throughout the year.

Awards 2016/17

This year's awards were presented at our end-of-year Celebration Assembly in July 2017.

Tierney Trophy Winner

This trophy is named after Mr Tierney who was headteacher at Abbey Primary for 27 years.

The trophy is awarded to the student who demonstrates 100% effort and perseverance in everything they do.

This young lady certainly reflects those attributes and we are very proud of her incredibly positive attitude to life.

McGreevy Trophy Winner

The McGreevy Trophy is always a very special trophy amongst the annual awards as it is voted for by the pupils themselves.

The pupils are asked to vote for a peer who they believe best represents Abbey Values and whom they will be proud to say in the future ' that's the type of person that represents Abbey Catholic Primary School '.

Abbey staff were delighted when votes were counted and this young man had a landslide victory. Not a dry eye in the house when this one was presented.

Walsh Cup Winner

This year, the Walsh Cup for Sports achievement and contribution went to two pupils.

Throughout their school career both girls have demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, not only pushing themselves but encouraging and supporting others.

Both girls were active in a wide variety of competitions individually and within teams as well as willingly giving up their time to be part of our Pupil Sports Council. Both girls are excellent role models and fine examples of #thisgirlcan.

Lyons Drama Trophy Winner

The Lyons Trophy is awarded for contribution to drama and performing arts.

This young man captivated us with his performances throughout his school career: as Joseph in the Reception nativity, as Jesus in Year 4 with the dramatisation of the Easter story and as Romeo in the Y6 School Shakespeare Festival. Alongside his superb performances with our school choir and numerous class assemblies, this award was very well deserved.

Crombie Shield for Maths

This is the first year this shield has been awarded.

This shield is awarded to the pupil who consistently tries their best in maths and doesn't allow themselves to be defeated by a challenge. We are very proud of this very deserving winner.
